New Products, New Ideas

Minecraft is the new rave right now so it was no surprise that Cade wanted a Minecraft cake.  The idea was simple enough, but basically creating a mosaic with tiny squares sure is time consuming!  But of course it is all worth it to make my little guy's 7th birthday special!

I love when I get to experiment with new products!  While it is exciting, at the same time it can make me a little uneasy since the need for the new products to work as I have planned is crucial to the success of the cake.  With this cake I used 2 new products.  I used tinted piping gel to create the "water" and I used gum-tex in some fondant to make it harden.

Happy birthday, son!

Cameron's birthday has rolled around yet again.  He's turning 9 years old!  So hard for me to believe!  His passion continues to involve WWE wrestling so nothing less than a great cake for him!  I had a great time creating this wrestling ring for him.  Love you, buddy!

Thanks

It is so sweet to know your costumers love your cakes!

Neon is Back

I love seeing the neon colors of my childhood coming back.  Too funny!  This cake was inspired by those 80s colors, but with a modern twist with the zebra stripes.

My cousin's daughter, Kelsie, celebrated her 18th birthday with this cake!

Dora the Explorer is my nightmare.  I made several attempts to add her to this cake, but either my creative juices weren't flowing or the details of her eyes and body truly are difficult to recreate with fondant.  Whichever it is, I just couldn't pull it off with the quality I would have been happy with.  Instead I created a cute cake for a cute birthday girl.

60th Birthday

This cake was the first time I experiemented with marzipan.  I made the numbers with this almond paste and was hoping to stand the "60" up on the the cake.  The marzipan dried as planned and would have been capable of standing, but my support systen was not sufficient.  So I will have to continue to experiment.

This cake was fun to make.  A little different design than my normal tiered cakes with the square on the bottom.  It is also hard to tell in the picture, but it is a mini-tiered cake ready to feed about 16 people.

Ahoy Matey!

This was an interesting cake for me to make in light of my recent complaint that so many boys' apparel has skulls on them.  From our recent family viewing of the Pirates of a Caribbean movies, Cameron and Cade have taken a liking to pirates.  Knowing my own children, the skull and crossbones seems innocent and playful.   But perhaps I have learned a lesson about judging the clothes someone might select for their children to wear.

Cakes Galore

It has been awhile since I last posted the cakes I have been making so I have a few fun ones to share.

This cake was super fun!  I tried a new product...edible glitter!  The picture doesn't make it real obvious, but the black stripes are super shimmery!  This eight year old diva had a great cake!

The Chicago Bears is a love of this little girls so she got a super fun cake!

A Boston Red Sox fan at heart recieved this cake for his birthday!

Faux Cake

Wow, I was honored to be asked to make this cake from a friend who owns her own boutique.  The store is celebrating its 5th anniversary and this weekend is also the store's Christmas Open House.

The cake was my first "faux" cake so I went into the project on a learning curve.  I must say that decorating with foam dummies is actually easier than with real cake.  I enjoyed making this cake and am glad I had the opportunity!

May the Force be With You

I made these lightsabers for my son's seventh birthday.  He chose to have a Boston Creme Pie so I made the lightsabers out of Rice Crispy treats.

A Little Surprise

Cameron, Cade, and I are working our way around Eric's new offices to meet all of the employees.  While we are there to introduce ourselves, we are leaving behind a little treat for them to enjoy!!  These chocolate truffles are soooo sweet!

Happy Birthday Babe!

My husband just celebrated his birthday and this is the cake Cameron and Cade made for him.  Boston Cream Pie is his favorite!!  The boys enjoyed tricking daddy into thinking they were helping me wash dishes while we were working on the cake.

Happy birthday to my amazing husband!!
