Venturian

When I asked Cade what he wanted his birthday cake to look like, this is not what I was expecting!  Venturian is a YouTuber (if that is a word) that Cade likes to follow and watch his videos.  Anyway, Cade wanted Venturian's logo on his cake!  

This is the first time I covered a cake with buttercream instead of fondant.  I only used fondant for the decorations.

A Little Man is on the Way

This cake is one of the largest I have made.  AND it was for a new costumer.  (A person who was at the birthday party with the Toy Story cake.)  Those two items together always make me nervous.  However, it all turned out as planned!

Pool Time

I've done a similar cake before.  This was for a 16th birthday girl who also happens to be an exceptional swimmer!

Toy Story

Who doesn't love the Toy Story movies?  This birthday boy watches the movies non-stop so it is fitting that he celebrates his 2nd birthday with a Toy Story cake.

A New Challenge

I like new challenges, but my fear of disappointing the recipient is always in the back of my head.    The new challenge in this cake was using edible markers to draw the design.

Despite my nerves, I think I nailed this one!

Chocolate Lover

Cade and I created this candy cake by combining many ideas we got from other cakes.  It was the easiest cake I have made in a while!

Great swimmers deserve a great cake!  This great Royals swimmer got this fun swim cap and goggle cake!

It's Been Awhile

Back to the Dark Side

Cameron's 11th birthday rolled around and to my surprise he wanted a Darth Vader cake.  I decided to carve the mask out of cake before covering it with fondant.  I was pleased with how it turned out although I must admit I find myself not being as picky when the cake is for my own family.  I had many flaws like cracked fondant and rough seams that I would have fixed had it been for a client.

Here Comes the Bride

Today at work we celebrated with two of our colleagues as they countdown to their wedding day! Instead of a cake, we had a cupcake bar!

New Products, New Ideas

Minecraft is the new rave right now so it was no surprise that Cade wanted a Minecraft cake.  The idea was simple enough, but basically creating a mosaic with tiny squares sure is time consuming!  But of course it is all worth it to make my little guy's 7th birthday special!

I love when I get to experiment with new products!  While it is exciting, at the same time it can make me a little uneasy since the need for the new products to work as I have planned is crucial to the success of the cake.  With this cake I used 2 new products.  I used tinted piping gel to create the "water" and I used gum-tex in some fondant to make it harden.

Cameron's birthday has rolled around yet again.  He's turning 9 years old!  So hard for me to believe!  His passion continues to involve WWE wrestling so nothing less than a great cake for him!  I had a great time creating this wrestling ring for him.  Love you, buddy!
